The approximation problem: Existence, characterization and the uniqueness of best approximations.Basic set of polynomials, orthogonal polynomials, Legedre polynomials and Chebyshev polynomials. Polynomial approximation of functions: Least square approximation (discrete and continuous problem), Uniform approximation or Chebyshev min-max approximation (discrete and continuous problem). Spline interpolation: The Lagrange interpolation formula, B-splines, linear splines. Hermite inerpolation-cubic splines. |
